Tour of National Aquaculture Research Development and Training Centre
The newly appointed Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has reaffirmed his commitment to positioning the blue economy as a pivotal sector driving the country’s economic transformation.
“We are focused on promoting fish farming as a vital component of the economy that will provide direct benefits to Kenyans particularly through direct and indirect employment opportunities,” said CS Joho, who recently succeeded his predecessor, CS Salim Mvurya.
CS Joho made these remarks while accompanying H.E. President William Ruto and H.E. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a visit to the National Aquaculture Research Development and Training Centre (NARDTC) in Sagana, Kirinyaga County.
The NARDTC plays a crucial role in providing training for fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders, collaborating with national, regional and international institutions on various training programs. The center also offers aquaculture education to visiting educational institutions and organized groups.
In addition to implementing aquaponics systems for demonstration purposes in educational facilities and providing management training, NARDTC facilitates industrial attachments for students from tertiary and university colleges.
Also in attendance were Investment, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru among other leaders
